On Feb. 11, 2023, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of motor vehicle break ins that occurred in and around the area of Old New Bern Rd in Chocowinity.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and interviewed several witnesses.

As a result of the investigation, detectives charged Michael Shannon Velasquez, age 48, of Old New Bern Rd in Chocowinity with two counts of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, one count of Attempted Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and one count of Misdemeanor Larceny.

On Feb. 24, 2023, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Valasquez and was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond set by a Beaufort County Magistrate.
