Ms. Deborah Sue Barr Elks, age 70, a resident of Chocowinity, died Sunday, February 26, 2023, at her home.

Private graveside services were held.

Mrs. Elks was born in Beaufort County on February 20, 1953.  She was the daughter of the late Edward Earl Barr, Sr. and Miriam Ann Jones Barr.  Mrs. Elks attended Washington High School and Beaufort County Community College. She was a retired insurance agent assistant with Beaufort County Farm Bureau.

On November 25, 2010, Mrs. Elks married Mickey L. Elks, who survives.

Surviving with her husband are her son Leon Taylor Woolard and wife, Edna of Washington; daughter, Amanda Joyce Woolard of Chocowinity; step son, Daniel Lee Elks and wife, Amanda of Chocowinity; step daughter, Keri Elks Sparks and husband, Stan of Chocowinity; brother, Edward Earl Barr, Jr. and wife, Ursula of Washington; three sisters, Belinda Lee Barr Viner of Washington, Rebecca Joe Barr Simpkins of Grimesland, Lori Lei Woolard of Washington and two grandchildren and four step grandchildren of Chocowinity.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
