Two nights after throwing a no-hitter in the season-opening victory over Edenton Holmes, Washington left-hander Emma Orr did it again against West Carteret Friday night at home.
The sophomore struck out 18 of the 21 batters she faced and drove in the games’ only run as the Pam Pack (2-0) scratched out a 1-0 victory
West Carteret managed two infield pop-ups and a ground out against Orr, who was working on a perfect game into the seventh inning until she hit the leadoff batter, who then tried to steal second.
Sophomore catcher Addison Miller threw her out on strike three to the batter, then Orr recorded her final strikeout to end the game.
Senior Ava Mizell walked to start the game, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, then scored on Orr’s ground out to second. Sophomore Emma Harris had Washington’s only hit, a sixth-inning single.
“They had a freshman pitcher who was very good and obviously Emma was very good, so that early run was huge,” coach Brad Horton said. “Emma was more efficient on the mound tonight and pitched a great game.”
Orr threw 92 pitches, 70 for strikes
