Alva Jean Keech Shook, age 77, a resident of Washington, NC, died Saturday, March 11, 2023, at her home.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 18, 2023, in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be officiated by Dr. Skipper McLawhorn. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Shook was born in Beaufort County on April 17, 1945, to the late James Redden Keech and Gladys Windley Keech. She was a 1963 graduate of Bath High School. On January 2, 2000, she married John A. Shook. Mrs. Shook worked at Pamlico Internal Medicine until her retirement in 2002. She enjoyed cooking, boating, travelling, and spending time with her grandchildren. She started the Red Hat Club at Cypress Landing. Mrs. Shook was a member of Proctor Memorial Christian Church in Grimesland, NC. She was a vibrant, energetic, giving, and loving woman. She showed kindness to everyone.

Survivors include her husband, John Austin Shook, one son, Chadwick Ray Warren and wife Sandra of Belhaven, a step son, Chris Shook of Brooklyn, NY, two grandchildren, Grayson Warren, Samuel Warren, a brother, Carlton Keech and wife Faye of Athens, GA, a sister, Sylvia Ratcliffe of Washington, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Redden Keech.
