Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office with the Aurora-Richland Township Chamber of Commerce opened a new substation in Aurora on Thursday, March 24. It is located at the corner of Pearl and Third Streets.  The substation is a location for deputies to complete administrative tasks, to do investigative work and interviews, according to Beaufort County Sheriff Scott Hammonds. 

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that “Sheriff Hammonds and his staff are proud to serve the citizens of the Richland Township and the Town of Aurora.”

A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday evening to celebrate the opening of the substation. Mayor Clif Williams shared his support for law enforcement. “I was a police commissioner for years before I became the Mayor of Aurora even after I became mayor for about four years at the police department. I am all about my police officers and you guys. I am going to support you.” 

He continued to say the Town of Aurora is “thrilled” that the sheriff’s office has a new location  representing the southern part of the county. 

Joy Dunn, president of the Aurora-Richland Township Chamber of Commerce, said the substation was not a vision that happened by serendipity. There was a collaboration between the sheriff’s office, Rick Baker who is the facilitator of Community Watch and the chamber of commerce. 

Dunn shared that “years ago” she and Baker had discussions about a satellite location in Aurora for the sheriff’s office. “I just am thrilled that he is going to be able to see this open and part of his dream being realized tonight.”
