WASHINGTON, NC – ECU Health Beaufort Hospital’s emergency services nurse manager, Brenda Emory, RN, CEN, TCRN was awarded the 2022 Nurse Practice and Professionalism Award by the North Carolina Emergency Nurses Association.  Emory, a 17-year emergency department nurse was recognized for her outstanding nursing practice as demonstrated through clinical skills, care and compassion. As an award recipient, Brenda was recognized as an expert in emergency nursing who consistently exhibits traits associated with professional behavior and commitment to professional values. 

Emory received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and is currently working on her Masters in Nursing Leadership at East Carolina University.  She is an instructor in ECU Health Beaufort Hospital’s center for learning and performance department, teaching courses related to trauma and pediatrics in emergency services. 

“Brenda exemplifies integrity, diversity, and inclusion on a daily basis and advocates for her patients by making them feel at ease during an emergency situation and by effectively communicating with all members of the healthcare team to ensure positive patient outcomes, said Mary Ellen Foreman, director of patient care services at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital. 

Emory is a leader in emergency services nursing. She collaborated with colleagues to reduce patient falls in the ED setting and led a project to implement a paramedic role in her community hospital ED and in turn improved patient throughput and patient experience. 

Emory presented work: “To Know What I Need, Let Me Lead: Experience Design in the Emergency Department Guided by the Voice of the Patient” during the 2022 North Carolina Organization of Nursing Leaders Conference.
