PCA wins fourth straight conference title

CHAMPS AGAIN; The Pungo Christian Academy softball team won its fourth straight Tar Heel Independent Conference championship with a 9-2 victory over The Albemarle School Wednesday.
Senior Kelly Williford went 3-3 and Melanie Rutledge hit a two run home run to lead the offense. Ella Kate Hanna, Reagan Stoop and Ginny Pugh drove in runs and Stoop earned the pitching win with a three-hitter and seven strikeouts.
Stoop was the TIC Player of the Year, while Rutledge was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. She also made the All-Conference team along with Emma Hanna, while Stoop, Pugh and Williford joined her on the All-Tournament team.
