Mrs. Marjorie Avon Tolan Ratcliff, age 94, a resident of the Terra Ceia community of Pantego died Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at River Trace Nursing Center in Washington.

The family will receive friends 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.  A private burial will be held later.

Mrs. Ratcliff was born in Beaufort County on June 13, 1929, daughter of the late Homer Styron Tolan and the late Pearl Matilda Ross.  She was a graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School and continued her education at Meredith College where she earned her degree in Education.  Mrs. Ratcliff taught for a short time in Wilson.  On August 3, 1952, she married Zeno Olen Ratcliff, Jr. who preceded her in death on August 22, 2001.  Upon moving back to Beaufort County, she took on the role of being a supportive farmers wife.  She loved cross stitching, gardening, and reading.  Mrs. Ratcliff was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church in Pantego.

Survivors include her children: Zeno O. Ratcliff, III and his wife Jennifer of Pantego, and Cynthia Jo Ratcliff and her husband Jerry Tolansky of Atlanta, GA.  She was predeceased by her brothers: Elmo, Homer, Delma, and William Frost Tolan; and her sisters: Hazel Jarvis, Evelyn Tolan, and Elaine Wade.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Carol Everette for her constant show of love and kindness and faithful visits throughout the duration of Mom’s stay at River Trace.
