Mrs. Pamela Jean Alligood Huss, age 74, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at her home on Possum Hill Road in Bath. She was surrounded by her loving family.

A burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Ben Brinson, Henton Chesson, Paige Davis, Jesse Thomas Rawls, David Dorsey, and Roy Parker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Allen, David Gossett, and Art Thompson.
Pam was born in Beaufort County on April 26, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Earl Eugene Alligood and Thelma Cox Alligood. Pam graduated with the Washington High School class of 1967 and went on to study Home Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught in the Mecklenburg County and Beaufort County School Systems and is remembered fondly by hundreds of former students as “Mrs. Huss.” A teacher through and through, she showed us how to live humbly with grace and kindness.
In 1954, her mother and father opened a restaurant on John Small Avenue in Washington and named it Pam’s Soda Shop (now Pam’s Diner). Just like her Daddy, Pam was a great cook. Pam was a River Rat – her “first car” was a boat! She had many wonderful times at Summer Haven, with her cousins, her Pop, & her Pie. She will be remembered for her warm smile. Even Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys once told Pam that she had beautiful teeth!
Pam was a very active and involved member of the First Methodist Church in Washington. She cherished her church family and her faith was unwavering. She loved all creatures great and small and found great joy in caring for many pets over the years, including bunnies, cats, dogs and horses. She even found space in her home for a pet tarantula and pet mice! Pam enjoyed reading, quilting, and socializing with her friends in the Colonial Book Club and the Threads of the Pungo Quilt Guild.
Pam is survived by her loving husband, Kemp Donald Huss, Jr. Their 52nd wedding anniversary is July 28th. Also surviving are her children, Jeffrey McMurry (Jeff) Huss and his wife Stacy, and Elizabeth Jean (Beth) Huss and her husband Jason Brown. Pam loved being a grandmother and was so proud of her grandchildren Naomi Rae Huss, Amelia Lou Brown, and Silas Benjamin Brown. She taught them, listened to them, comforted them, and cheered them on in LOTS of volleyball games, soccer games, plays and recitals. Her spirit will live on in all of those that love her.
In addition to her parents, Pam was preceded in death by an infant brother, Earl Alligood, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm to 8:30 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
Pam loved flowers, especially yellow ones, but in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial made to the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, 3931 U.S. Hwy. 264 East, Washington, N.C. 27889, Purpose of God Ministries, 1015 East 6th Street, Washington, N.C. 27889, or Sound Rivers, 108 Gladden Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
