Mr. Joseph Robert “Bob” Adams, Sr., age 92, a resident of Pantego, NC passed away on Sunday July 9, 2023, at East Carolina Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday July 13, 2023, at Union Grove Church of Christ, Highway 99 North, Pantego.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at the church, conducted by Ethan Coltrain.  Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Adam Boyd, Jeremy Boyd, Gage Boyd, Greg Sawyer, R.A. Phillips, and David Tetterton.

Bob was born in Beaufort County on February 8, 1931.  He was the son of the late William Thomas Adams and Beatrice Dunbar Adams.  He was a graduate of Pantego High School and attended Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School.  He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army.  On July 4, 1954, he married his soul mate and love of his life, the former Mildred “Jane” Davis, who preceded him in death on June 9, 2018.  Bob retired in 1994 as a master shipbuilder at Newport News Shipyard and moved back to his native Beaufort County.  He was a member of the Apprentice School Alumni Association, North Hampton Church of Christ, while living in VA, Pungo River Volunteer Fire Department, and a devoted member of Union Grove Church of Christ. Bob served as an elder at Union Grove.  He enjoyed volunteering in the community and watching the birds and wildlife.

Survivors include a son: Joseph Robert Adams, Jr. and his wife, Bea of Newport News, VA; a daughter: Robin Boyd and her husband Ricky of Pantego; grandchildren: Adam Boyd and his wife Samara of Pungo, Jeremy Boyd and his wife Pam of Pinetown, Kristin Sawyer and her husband Greg of Pungo, and Meagan Adams of Newport News; great grandchildren: Gage, Kinsleigh, Hudson, Emerson, Molleigh, Brody, Nolan, and Charleigh.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Elvin Thomas Adams, Eloise Adams Allen, Olise Adams Carter, Mary Adams Smith, Leona Adams Allen, Fannie Adams Paul, and William “Bill” Thomas Adams, Jr.
