Lee Medford Hopkins, age 90, a resident of the Pamlico Beach Community, died Monday July 17, 2023 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday July 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and will be officiated by Dean Fulford, Jr. Burial will follow in the Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill and will be dug by his community. Pallbearers include, his grandsons, Josh Hopkins, Jody Hopkins, Cody Foster, Harrison Hopkins, Frankie Voliva, and his nephew, Howard Sawyer. Honorary pallbearers include, Noah Hopkins, Oden Hopkins, Lane Hopkins and Samuel Foster.

Mr. Hopkins was born in Beaufort County on September 3, 1932 to the late Fred and Bertha Hopkins. He began his ministry with the church in 1989 and became ordained in 1993. He was a member of Belhaven Pentecostal Church. Mr. Hopkins also worked as a carpenter, a commercial fisherman, in the Newport News shipyard and ran a fish house. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, especially growing cucumbers and tomatoes.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Foster Hopkins of the home, two sons, Freddie Hopkins and wife Abbie of Pamlico Beach, Montie Hopkins and wife Bridgette of Pamlico Beach, five grandchildren, Freda Foster, Joshua Hopkins, Jody Hopkins, Shirley Hopkins, Noah Hopkins, eight great grandchildren, Morgan Hopkins, Katie Hopkins, Harrison Hopkins, Leanne Prince, Frankie Voliva, Samuel Foster, Oden Hopkins, Lane Hopkins, four great great grandchildren, Layla Prince, Lexy Tate, Ava Voliva, Cody Foster, and a step daughter Wanda Guthrie Spence.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Asby Hopkins, a son, Michael Hopkins, a brother, Murphy Hopkins, and a sister, Virginia Sawyer.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday July 20, 2023 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at their home.
