With several varsity teams competing in the jamboree, Tarboro high school was bustling with activity. The Pam Pack enjoyed the opportunity to play against other programs.

They went up against bigger schools in higher classes such as Enloe from 4A and Person from 3A. They also played good teams from 1A including Tarboro and North Edgecombe. Hunt, J.H. Rose, Wakefield, and Martin County were the teams in attendance.

“I loved the team’s competitiveness,” head coach Matt Taylor said. “These guys want to win and have been working hard. They want to see success right away.”

Taylor said the team was frustrated that they didn’t have immediate success against some of the bigger schools. He said there were good teams out on the field and success will come as the season progresses.

“Person was big, and that Tarboro team is one of the best Tarboro teams I’ve ever seen,” Taylor said. That being said, we were not outmatched physically. We were able to go toe to toe with them and that is really exciting to see. “

Coach Taylor emphasized how well his team competed, especially with the better schools. He knows what they need to work on before the season starts next week.

“I know we need to crisp some things out. We found some areas for improvement, and we can improve our fundamentals. But this is a competitive group of guys and I’m really excited to see how much they improve this season,” Taylor said.
