Mr. Larry Mitchell Boyd, age 79, a resident of Washington and local photographer, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Everetts Church of Christ.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Everetts Church of Christ, conducted by his nephew Bobby Wallace, Jr. and pastor Dennis R. Davis.

Larry was born in Beaufort County on April 24, 1944.  He was the son of the late Dennis Woodrow Boyd and Hattie Elizabeth Lilley Boyd.   He served in the National Guard and was a past member of the Bath Ruritan Club and Athens Chapel Church of Christ.  In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling and photography.

His family knew him as a loyal brother, uncle and friend.  On the professional side he was a sought-after builder, designer and contractor.  During his long career he developed such prominent local residences as Pamlico Plantation, Armory Pointe and The Courtyards apartments.  A labor of love, The Courtyards project was developed from the historic Washington Tobacco Company site.  Larry worked diligently to preserve the original sign and to showcase many of the original support beams and brickwork throughout the structure.

In 2005 he turned his hobby of photographing native wildlife, rural landscapes and the Washington waterfront into a rewarding second career.  His ability to capture the raw natural beauty of North Carolina life, especially on his beloved Pocosin Lakes Refuge, quickly became evident to local and regional admirers.  These days Larry’s work can be viewed in many local businesses as well as The Lemonade Art Gallery at 201 W Main St., Washington.

He is survived by two sisters, Susan Boyd of Washington, Sybil Boyd Wallace and husband, Bobby Wallace, Sr. of Pinetown; sister-in-law Jeannie Boyd of Pinetown; nieces and nephews, Corinna Oliver (Steve), Tracy Boyd Pellin (Mark), Bobby Wallace, Jr. (Shari), Benjmain Boyd (Mandi), Rob Swink (Cara), Scott Swink (Lisa), Erin Dzielecki (Kevin); and many adoring great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow and Mark Boyd.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, 205 South Ludington Drive, Columbia, N.C. 27925.
