The Washington High School cross country team took full advantage of their only home meet with victories in the boys and girls races Wednesday. Sophomore Lydia Smith (pictured) set the pace in the girls race as she completed the 5K course in 25:30. Teammates Jessica Conner (26:52 and Hailey Broadwell (28:19) were second and third.
Junior Braden Smithwick, pictured, (19:33) led the WHS boys with a second place finish behind a Farmville Central runner. Washington’s Manuel Meza (22:14), Tucker Caldwell (22:20) and Gabe Niederhauser (22:43) completed the top five. (Steve Barnes/Washington Daily News)
