Belhaven, N.C. – Historic Belhaven will be filled with the smoky aroma of pork barbeque as well as dozens of food and craft vendors during the community’s 1st Annual Belhaven Trout Tournament and Festival, Sept. 29-30.
The event is being sponsored by the Belhaven Community Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center, and is a fundraiser to support trade-related scholarships at Beaufort County Community College through the college’s foundation as well as scholarships for area high school seniors. The trout tournament and all other activities will be held at the intersection of Routes 99 and 264 at the Belhaven Boat Ramp.
“We are very proud to welcome residents and visitors to Belhaven to this first-ever event,” said Carol Roop, Executive Director of the Belhaven Community Chamber of Commerce. “By combining a trout tournament with a pig cooking contest, and other foods and crafts, we hope to entice amateur, professional and junior anglers as well as area families to our community for what will be a fun two-day event.”
According to Ms. Roop, the trout tournament on the Pungo River will feature over $11,000.00 in guaranteed tournament prizes and trophies, while the festival will feature a pig cooking competition with $1,200 in prizes and trophies. She said anglers will register the day of the event.
“We are excited to sponsor this trout tournament in Belhaven for the first time ever,” said Hugh Sutton, the tournament director. “This area is known as one of the premier locations for speckled trout in North Carolina, so we hope to entice some 200 anglers to this two day fishing event.”
