Elizabeth S. Coston, age 91, died September 9^th, 2023.  Funeral services will be Thursday the 14^th at Macedonia United Methodist Church, Cary, NC where family visitation will be from 11 to 12 preceding the funeral at 12:00.

Liz was born May 16, 1932 in Beaufort County, NC and grew up in the Pamlico Beach community on the North shore of the Pamlico River & graduated from John A Wilkinson High School, Belhaven, NC.

Liz is survived by husband, John T Coston; step daughters Teresa C. & husband Joseph E Dupree, Jr. and Sharon G. Coston; two Grandsons, Dr. Joseph E. Dupree, III & wife Tiffany & John Thomas Dupree & wife Kate; two Great Grandsons, Mason & Caleb Dupree & several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by parents Elizabeth R. & William M. Sawyer and all brothers & sisters; Delbert M., Harold G., Curtis L. Sawyer; Doris S. Radcliffe & Bertise S. Potter.

Liz received a BS Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of VA and Master of Public Health from UNC School of Public Health & had a challenging career in both clinical and administrative positions in nursing as well as consultant and administrative positions in the NC Medical Care Commission and NC Dept. Human Resources, Division of Facility Services.

She considered her greatest contribution to society as having helped to save the life of a neighbor’s child.  Her greatest pride & Joy was watching two grandsons Joe & Tom grow up and mature into fine adult men.  Some of her greatest pleasures was taking them and friends (at pre and early school ages) to the river and beach & later having them, their wives and sons visit with Papa Tommy & Granny Liz.
