Mrs. Debra Lou Hodges Braxton, age 70, a resident of Chocowinity, went to her Heavenly Home, Sunday September 17, 2023.

Mrs. Braxton was born in Moultrie, Ga. on April 16, 1953. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Buren Hodges and Sara Ann Gay Hodges.  Mrs. Braxton worked at Beaufort County Hospital for several years. She worked many years at Northcare Health Services in Greenville.  She also worked as a legal assistant for Darrell Cayton, a local attorney in Washington, NC.  She was known as a simple person who loved and supported her family.  Mrs. Braxton was the No.1 fan of the Braxton Racing Team and 252 List Fan.  She always made sure she supported all the racing family. She showed her support through Facebook and through the support she gave her family.  She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and wearing jewelry – ring on every finger.  She was an avid animal lover, she loved her many Dachshunds, the last one being Reba.

She was married to the love of her life, Thurman Braxton on June 7, 1970, in Shelmerdine, NC. They lived a simple life that provided great respect and love for each other. Thurman never left home without kissing her goodbye.

Surviving with her husband are her children, David Braxton and wife Sonya of Chocowinity, Tonya Braxton Gruenwald and husband, Alan of Chocowinity; grandchildren, Cameron Braxton, Jacob Braxton, Michael Smith; brother, William Hodges, and wife Ann, of Kinston and sister, Micki Silvers of Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at her home, 210 Braxton Drive, Chocowinity, NC.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Dixon Family Cemetery, 1896 Old New Bern Highway, Chocowinity, conducted by Pastor J.T. Edwards.

The following will serve as pallbearers:  Linwood Braxton, Cameron Braxton, Lee Sutton, William Jones, Robert Taylor and Doug Sullivan.
