Mr. Murrel Edward Jordan, age 84, a resident of Everett Road, Washington, NC passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 4, 2023 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and will be officiated by Marty Alligood and Phillip Paul. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Shay Poczontek, Zackry Poczontek, Mark Poczontek, Jonah Jordan, Matthew Jordan, and Ethan Jordan will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Jordan was born in Pinetown on January 17, 1939. He was the son of the late Leroy Edward Jordan and Doris Valora Waters Jordan. He was a 1958 graduate of Bath High School and then enlisted in the Army National Guard. On June 16, 1961 he married the love of his life, Lavetta Mae Ange Jordan, and together they raised a beautiful family. They began their life farming but then moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he worked for the shipyard and helped build some of the world’s first nuclear aircraft carriers, such as the USS America and USS Enterprise. The love of home brought him back to North Carolina where he had 30 years of service at PCS Phosphate before enjoying retirement on October 6, 1999. He was a member of Pinetown Church of Christ where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Followed by his love for the Lord and his family, Mr. Jordan loved to hunt and spent many hours chasing deer and listening to his dogs run.

Surviving along with his wife, Lavetta Mae Ange Jordan of the home, his children, Edward Lee Jordan and wife Leona of Pinetown, Patricia Elaine Jordan Poczontek and husband Douglas of Greenville, Kurt Wayne Jordan, and wife Heather of Pinetown. His brother Lowell Gene Jordan and wife Debbie of Pinetown. His grandchildren: Brandi Nicole Jordan Brooks and husband Tanner, Jonah Edward Jordan, Shay Alan Poczontek and wife Stephanie, Zackry Jordan Poczontek, Mark Anthony Poczontek and wife Samantha, Matthew Edward Jordan and wife Kaylyn, Ethan Graham Jordan, Kaleigh Alexis Jordan, Morgan Leigh Jefferson, Logan Blake Jefferson, great grandchildren, Bayden Shay Poczontek, Canaan William Poczontek, Raleigh Abbott Poczontek, Mark Anthony Poczontek, Jr., Collins Rose Poczontek, Ellie Mae Poczontek, and Leaven Layne Jordan.

Mr. Jordan is preceded in death along with his parents, by brother Earl Jordan and wife Patricia Jordan and a sister Ruby Daniels and husband Allen Daniels.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
