Smoke on the Water this weekend, expect street closings

Smoke on the Water will celebrate its 25th anniversary this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 20-21) by the waterfront in downtown Washington. The annual barbecue and chili competitions draw thousands of people to the area for the weekend. Held by Washington Noon Rotary, Smoke on the Water raises money for local nonprofits.
Portions of downtown will be closed off to make room for the event. Event organizers compiled a list of streets that will be closed from 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Stewart Parkway from Main Street to Market Street
Water Street from Market Street to Bonner Street
Respess Street from Main Street to the Parkway
All parking lots on Stewart Parkway and a parking lot on Water Street across from Mac “Bear” Hodges Festival Park.
On Saturday at 5 a.m., Market Street from Main Street to the Parkway will also close for vendor and car show traffic.
Cars in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Cones will block off Stewart Parkway starting Thursday afternoon.
