It was a weekend to remember. Oh, yes.

They came from so many different places. The majority were young women. Well, young compared to me. And good looking, too. I mean, I’m old, but not blind. You know, I AM a male.

Those who came were work associates who were friends; and friends who were not work associates. A lot were from Florida.

So, old feller, where did all this take place, and just what was the occasion.

We all converged on Manteo, on the Outer Banks. The “Goodliest land under the cope of heaven” as one of Sir Walter Raleigh’s contemporaries put it.

I digress. The occasion was our Mary Bart’s fiftieth birthday. So that’s why it was celebrated where she and her sister grew up.

Among the tributes shared in front of the “assemblage” was the following, written and read by our Sarah;

You’re a CrossFit champ, so strong and fit, Each workout, a challenge, you never quit. With kettlebells swinging and ropes to climb, You’re proof that age is just a state of mind.

You love for food is quite a sight, From gourmet feasts to a simple bite. You savor every flavor, every cuisine, You are absolutely a foodie queen.

Your dogs are family, through and through, Loyal companions who adore you. Their wagging tails and loving eyes, Remind us of the bond that never dies.

You are so full of beauty and grace,

With humor and heart, you light up every place.

 

You have a knack for jokes, a witty retort, Your sense of humor is our joyful support.

But it’s your heart, sis, that shines the most, With love that spreads from coast to coast. Whether friend, coworker or coffee shop crew, You make everyone feel cherished and true.

Your kindness is boundless, your warmth, so rare,

A gift to the world, beyond compare.

As you turn 50, with grace and style,

We celebrate you, with a heartwarming smile.
