The first tennis season in Southside High School history ended Monday with a 7-2 second round loss to Chatham Charter in the second round of the 1A state playoffs.

Freshmen Eliza Jones (above) and Valeria Gonzalez won their doubles match 6-4 and senior Vanessa Gonzalez won her singles match, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

“We had a tremendous first season and I’m so proud of all our girls,” coach Meredith Dixon said. “Only one of them had ever played competitively and some of them had never held a racket. We improved so much over the course of the year and we had a lot of fun doing it.”
