Victims identified in fatal boating accident

Victims have been identified in fatal boating accident in Beaufort County.
The two deceased have been identified as 59-year-old Charles Bailey and his wife, 58-year-old Suzanne Bailey, both were residents of Bath, N.C.
The investigation in regard to the cause of the incident is still ongoing at this time, but the couple was traveling alone, and no other people were involved.
On Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at approximately 2:23 am, members of Beaufort County’s Water Response Team to include Bath, Bunyan, Chocowinity and Washington Fire Departments, along with Pinetown Rescue & EMS, NC Wildlife, NC Marine Fisheries, US Coast Guard, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort County’s Office of Emergency Services responded to assist with locating an overdue boater in Bath, NC.
Responding personnel quickly located the crashed vessel in a wooded shoreline near Dinah’s Landing. Both occupants were found deceased at the scene. NC Wildlife is currently investigating this single vessel accident with assistance from Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. The names of the victims are being withheld until family notifications have been completed.
An update will be forthcoming from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
