Victim identified in fatal Blounts Creek fire

The deceased has been identified as 57 year old Durwood Weston of 362 Weston Road, Blounts Creek. There were no other occupants in the residence at the time of the fire.
Although the investigation is ongoing, foul play is not suspected. The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined due to the extensive damage to the residence.
On Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at approximately 4:45 a.m. Blounts Creek, Chocowinity and Aurora Fire Departments as well as Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort County’s Office of Emergency Services responded to a reported structure fire at 362 Weston Dr. in Blounts Creek, NC.
The first arriving responder reported a single wide mobile home fully consumed by fire. Fire personnel located one deceased occupant in the debris.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is leading an investigation with assistance from Beaufort County’s Office of Emergency Services, North Carolina’s State Bureau of Investigation and North Carolina’s Office of State Fire Marshall to determine the cause of the fire.
