A Washington High School sophomore was arrested by authorities with Allied Universal after a gun was found in the student’s backpack on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 14), Beaufort County Schools’ Public Information Officer, Kristen Riddle confirmed.
Because the student is underage, their identity is being withheld. At this time, the student’s intention and the type of gun they brought to school has not been released.
“A situation” with a student was brought to the attention of an Allied Universal school resource officer who conducted a safety check. The gun was found in the student’s backpack during the check, Riddle said.
The student was taken to the Beaufort County Courthouse in Washington, and they received a 365-day suspension from Washington High School. The student was transferred to a juvenile detention center in Pitt County.
For the next two weeks, Allied Universal and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office will increase their patrol of the campus with three officers.
