Mrs. Leah Rose Kinsey Pyburn, age 91, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday November 15, 2023, at her home.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 22, 2023, at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington, officiated by Father Jim Magee. A burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday November 21, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
Leah was born on October 16, 1932, daughter of the late Earl Sidney Kinsey and the late Lenora Marie Wilhelmi Kinsey. She was a graduate of St. Cecelia’s Academy in Algona, Iowa in 1950. She married John “Jack” Pyburn who preceded her in death on May 8, 2021.
Leah attended Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington, where she served as president of the Women’s Club, sang in the choir, and served as “minister of hospitality”, as well as lector. She also belonged to the Moms and Pops of that church. Mrs. Pyburn belonged to numerous clubs: Women’s Club of Carlsbad, NM: Who’s Who and International Women’s Club in Panama, Central America; the O Henry Book Club of Washington and the Washington Blind Center, the Brown Library, and the Beaufort Hospital.
She especially loved crossword puzzles, bridge, reading, music, singing, playing the piano, being with family and was a passionate cook. She and her husband of 68 years, Jack, loved to travel and were fortunate to be able to see many parts of the United States as well as many foreign countries.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include her five children: Jack Jr. and wife Lynne Pyburn, Richard and wife Janis Pyburn, Catherine Ann Pyburn, Thomas and Margie Pyburn, and Phillip and Michelle Pyburn; grandchildren: John Pyburn III, Carol Ann and Locket Tally, Eric and Stephanie Pyburn, Adam and Ali Pyburn, Jay Pyburn, Courtney Pyburn, Taylor Pyburn, and Ryan Pyburn; and great grandchildren: Lock, Hudson and Olive Tally, and Evan and Logan Pyburn.
Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks for any memorial contributions to be made to Gentiva Hospice, 222 Stewart Parkway, Washington, NC 27889.
