A takedown here, a reversal over there and the Washington High School wrestling team brings home the trophy from the Saints Takedown Kings Invitational at Southern Wayne High School Saturday.
The Pack used their momentum from an opening night home sweep of Bunn, West Carteret and D.H. Conley to finish third by a point and a half in Saturday’s 10 team tournament. Conley and Wilmington Ashley tied for first place.
Freshman Bryce Perry (132) and senior Bryant Smith (165) won their weight classes with pins in the championship match.
Five other WHS wrestler’s made it to the title match, but settled for second place including freshman Sam Boltes (106), senior Christian Price (125), sophomore David B-Meza (138), sophomore Gabe Foreman (150) and junior Evan Makepeace (157).
Brennon Warren finished third at 132, while Trenton Baldree (190) and Tucker Massie (120) took fourth place.
Washington hosts Northside, Goldsboro and Northeastern for a quad match November 29 at 5:30 p.m.
