The Pungo Christian Academy Raiders placed six players on various North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association All-State teams for fall sports.
Senior running back/receiver/ defensive back Quay Artis was the lone Raiders on the Division 1 football squad after racking up 1,126 rushing yards, 153 receiving yards and scoring 21 touchdowns as PCA went 5-3.
“He’s an ideal player to coach and while his stats speak for themselves, he’s an even better person,” coach Alex Sefton said. “He has ability, but works very hard to get the most out of it and he had a chance to break a big play every time he touched the ball. He’s polite, humble and acts like he’s been there before. He totally deserves to be on the All-State team and I’ll miss having him around next year.”
Two players from the state-runner up volleyball team earned recognition. Senior Autumn Gibbs was fourth in the state with 248 kills, 10th with 88 service aces and led the Tar Heel Independent Conference with 260 digs.
Junior setter Anna Stoop was second in the state with 101 services aces and fifth with 616 assists.
Seniors Maddox Lee and Austin Garrish were recognized for soccer as the Raiders won their first playoff match in program history. Lee was the TIC regular season and tournament MVP and third among 1A players with 23 goals and added 10 assists for a total of 56 points, while Garrish led a stingy Raider defense.
Senior Katie Baxter was part of the 1A tennis team after playing number one singles and doubles most of the season. She also made the All-Conference team.
