After rolling through the Coastal Plains 1A/2A Conference undefeated for the second straight season, the Northside Panthers placed 10 players on the All-Conference team and had the league’s player and coach of the year.

Senior running back Jamie Corprew was the Player of the Year after leading the league with 1,579 yards and 24 touchdowns despite missing one of the Panthers (8-3) 11 games with an illness.

“He dominated the league with his numbers and he was very important to our team, but he’d be the first to tell you that his offensive line opened the holes for him,” coach Keith Boyd said. “Those guys did a great job up front and several of them are All-Conference as well.”

Joining Corprew on the All-Conference squad are linemen Tate Gibbs, Griffin Johnson and Gus Vansant along with tight end Landon Buck. Hunter Chrismon and Dashawn Smith are the other seniors who made it along with juniors Zanek McCloud, who intercepted six passes, and Max Vansant, who was the second-leading rusher and tackler. Sophomore Malachi Moore and senior T.J. Squires earned second team recognition.

“That senior group accomplished a lot in their three years on varsity,” Boyd said. “They’ve represented us well on and off the field and I’m proud of them.”

Gibbs and Gus Vansant were repeat selections, while Boyd won for the first time since leading the Panthers to the 1A state championship game in the spring of 2021.

“I’m blessed with great assistant coaches and I’m lucky to be at a great school,” Boyd said. “We do our best to lead the kids to water, then hope they drink. Their success on the field leads to accolades for all of us, so it’s a team effort.

Southside will announce its all-conference selections in January.
