Pack wrestlers finish fourth

The Washington High School wrestling team finished fourth out of 16 teams from all classifications in Saturday’s Beast of the East tournament at Croatan High School.
WHS finished first among 2A teams and trailed champion Jacksonville, Croatan and Dixon, all 3A schools in the overall standings.
Freshman Bryce Perry continued his undefeated season with three victories in the 113 lb. class, including a 12-2 major decision over his West Carteret opponent in the championship match. Perry is 23-0 so far this season.
Four Pam Pack wrestlers made it to the title match in their weight class, but ended up with second place. Freshman Sam Boltes (18-4) lost in the 106 lb. final, Senior Christian Price lost to his Jacksonville opponent in the 120 lb. final, Sophomore Gabe Foreman (17-8) fell to his Dixon opponent at 144 lb. and senior TraQuan Haywood (16-7) lost to his Chapel Hill HS opponent in the 165 lb. class.
Sophomore David B. Meza was sixth in the 138 lb. class, while junior Evan Makepeace was six at 157.
Trenton Baldree (175), Marek Bates (190), Braxton Woolard (126) and Cooper Johnson (215) won one of their three matches to add to the team point total.
