The Washington High School wrestling team continued its dominant season with three decisive victories at Southwest Edgecombe earlier this week.
The Pack is 15-1 in tri or quad meets with the only loss to 4A powerhouse D.H. Conley after 78-6 victories over Wilson Hunt and Rocky Mount and a 63-18 decision over Eastern Plains Conference foe Southwest Edgecombe.
Washington went 18-5 in contested individual matches, with the rest of the victories coming by forfeit.
Sam Boltes (106), Christian Price (120), TraQuan Haywood (165), Marek Bates (190) and Cooper Johnson (215) prevailed on the mat against SWE, while Price, Braxton Woolard (132), Tate Tucker (144) and Trenton Baldree (175) won against Hunt in a match that included nine forfeits.
The Pack saw more action against Rocky Mount as Boltes, Bryce Perry (113), Brennon Warren (132), J.B. Norman (138), Tucker, Gabe Foreman (150), Haywood and Bates won on the mat.
“Getting a conference win is always a positive,” coach Chris Penhollow said. “It was also a chance for our younger guys to get some more experience. Mat time is always good and we’re in a good spot at this point. It will be good to have Bryant (Smith) back next week and our reserves have filled in well for him, so that helps our depth.”
Perry, a freshman, is still undefeated in the 113 lb. class and will compete in the prestigious WRAL tournament this weekend in Raleigh. He is the fourth seed in his weight class. Foreman is fourth in the 144 lb. class, while Boltes (106) and Price (120) are sixth seeds.
Northside-The Panthers dropped a 50-30 decision at North Pitt earlier this week. Jacob Robert (120), Rylan Paul (150), Ayden Davis (215) and Nick Jordan (285) won their matches on the mat for Northside.
Southside: The Seahawks are off until after the holiday break.
