From Sen. Jim Perry:
KINSTON, N.C. – Senator Jim Perry (R-Lenoir, Craven, Beaufort) decided not to file for the 2024 Election.
Our life situations can change in an instant, and I finally reached the conclusion that I would not be able to make the time commitment necessary to be an effective Senator if I served an additional term. Time is a precious commodity, and we are each only given a finite amount. I have worked hard to support the people of eastern NC during my three terms in the North Carolina Senate. I am entering a season of life where I will need more time to support those closest to me.
Some members of our community are aware that I was recently injured in a hunting accident; however, I want to assure my friends that my personal health is fine. I am healing nicely, and the incident is not the basis for my decision. We will continue to focus on constituent services and completing remaining tasks in the short session. Ultimately, I intend to return to the private sector, once my schedule will allow me to do so.
Senator Phil Berger, President Pro Tempore of the NC Senate offered these comments on Perry’s decision: “Jim has been a valuable member of our caucus since his first day in the Senate. His tireless work ethic and willingness to dig into the details have made a lasting impact on health care and finance policy in the state. He was a steadfast advocate for his constituents in Beaufort, Craven, and Lenoir counties and made sure to speak up on behalf of all Eastern North Carolinians. I want to thank Jim for his service to the people of North Carolina.”
No one accomplishes anything alone in the North Carolina General Assembly. We need to choose smart, reasonable leaders who can work with others to solve problems and accomplish measurable results. I will work hard to help make that happen.
It is an honor to serve my fellow citizens in the North Carolina Senate and look forward to the final year of my term.
