Perry takes first, Pack finishes seventh

Washington’s Bryce Perry continued his outstanding freshman wrestling season by winning the 113 lb. championship at the Wildcat Holiday Invitational held at Bun HS.
Perry pinned wrestlers from Gray’s Creek, Rolesville and Wakefield on the way to the title and improved to 36-2 for the season.
Washington finished seventh out of 22 teams in all classifications from the Triangle eastward and one team from Virginia.
Uwharrie Charter of Asheboro won the team title, followed by the host school, Rolesville, D.H. Conley, South Granville and Wakefield with the Pam Pack seventh.
WHS senior Bryant Smith (22-3) finished second at 165 lbs. with wins over Louisburg and Rolesville opponents before losing in the finals to a Franklinton opponent.
Freshman Sam Boltes (29-8) defeated a Smithfield-Selma opponent, then had to battle through the consolation bracket after losses to Bunn and Uwharrie Charter opponents. He pinned his Heritage opponent, then claimed third place with a major decision against North Raleigh Christian.
Senior Christian Price (25-9) finished fourth in the 120 lb. division after winning three matches against Gray’s Creek, Fike, Bunn opponents and losing to D.H. Conley and a South Granville opponent in the third place match.
Trenton Baldree (190) and Cooper Johnson (215) won two matches, while Braxton Woolard (126), Brennon Warren (132) and Evan Makepeace (157) won once.
Washington returns to the mat Jan. 4 in a home quad match against Greene Central, North Lenoir and West Carteret.
