Washington welcomes author Susan Wilson

Susan Wilson, author of the first biography about Washington’s Susan Dimock, Women and Children First: The Trailblazing Life of Susan Dimock, M.D., has spent a busy two days thus far in Washington, to celebrate and promote her new book. On Thursday, Wilson took part in Brown Library’s Bites of History series, where she spoke about her “Voyages of Discovery”, which took her around the world, as she conducted research for the book. Friday morning she joined the director of the Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum, Leesa Jones and many others, on a historic walking tour. They began the tour from the cemetery at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where Dimock’s father Henry is buried and Dimock’s original headstone from Forest Hill Cemetery in Boston, is now located. They discussed Dimock’s life, and pointed out areas of historic significance during her 17 years in Washington. Later that evening, Wilson gave a formal presentation about Dimock’s life at the North Carolina Estuarium. Today from 10:00 am-11:30 am she will doing a book signing and meet and greet at the Harbor District Market. She will then conclude her stay with a book signing from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm at Pamlico Books.
