Ms. Vernell Harris Woolard, age 85, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday January 17, 2024, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 Saturday January 20, 2024, at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Dr. Jeff Roberts.  The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Ms. Woolard was born in the Pike Road community of Pantego on June 7, 1938, daughter of the late Dallas Rosevelt Harris and the late Nellie Corintha Hodges Harris.  She was a former member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church and attended Love Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to many.

Survivors include a son: William H. Woolard, Jr. of Washington; grandchildren: April Woolard Roberts and her husband Tyler of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and William Tyler Woolard of Rocky Mount; and a great grandson: Worth Roberts of Mt. Pleasant; and her partner: John Cattelain of the home.  Ms. Woolard was preceded in death by a daughter: Wanda Gail Woolard; and three brothers: Lemuel, Hymon, and Alva Harris.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly ask that memorial contributions to be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 12829, New Bern, NC 28561.
