Traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen firearms

On January 21, 2024 at approximately 1:40 am, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Highway 33 East in Chocowinity after observing an equipment violation. During the initial contact with the vehicle occupants, Deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana and learned that firearms were concealed inside the center console of the vehicle. During a subsequent search, Deputies located two stolen firearms and a small amount of marijuana.
As a result, Tyrel Minor, 25 years of age, of Greenville NC was charged with two (2) counts of Felony Possession of Stolen Firearm, two (2) counts of Misd. Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and one (1) count of Misd. Driving While License Revoked. Minor was held in Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond.
Patrick Coffey, 25 years of age, of Grimesland NC was charged with Misd. Simple Possession of Marijuana and served an outstanding Order for Arrest for Failure To Appear in Court. Coffey was held in Beaufort County Detention Center under a $3,000.00 secured bond.
