From Shepard Cancer Center Development Council
Washington, NC – Mia Williams, branch manager with United Bank in Washington and member of the Shepard Cancer Center Development Council, recently presented a check for $1,600 to Jack Piland, chair of the Development Council.
Each October, United Bank on Market Street holds a bake sale to create awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer and to raise money for the Shepard Cancer Center. The bake sale is in honor of a branch employee who is a breast cancer survivor.
Employees at the branch as well as family members donate baked goods and the customers at the Market Street branch are very generous donors to the effort. The money raised this year will support the free mammogram breast cancer screening program.
The mission of the Shepard Cancer Center Development Council is to financially support and promote the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center in its efforts to improve the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. In addition, the Development Council will support the Cancer Center in its efforts to promote prevention, early detection and early treatment of cancer.
