The Washington High School wrestling team begins its quest for the programs first trip to the dual team state tournament finals as the second seed in the East and will host three other teams Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
The Pack will face 15th seeded Louisburg HS in the first round, while #7 North Johnston wrestles Eastern Plains Conference member North Pitt. The winners will meet in the second round at approximately 12:30 p.m.
“We’re happy with our seed and ready to get started” WHS coach Chris Penhollow said. “We’re glad to be in front of our fans for the first two rounds and hopefully it will give us an advantage. We learned last year not to take a conference opponent lightly. We beat West Craven twice last year, but they knocked us out when it counted, so we don’t want that to happen if we wrestle North Pitt in the second round.”
Seaforth HS of Pittsboro drew the top seed, while Bunn HS was third and SW Onslow fourth. The winners of Saturday’s first two rounds will meet Wednesday at a location to be determined for the third and fourth rounds. Wednesday’ winner will advance to the Greensboro Coliseum as the East champion to meet the West winner Saturday, February 3.
