Mrs. Marie “Grams” Corey Cox, age 91, a resident of Washington, NC died Friday, January 26, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

Marie was born in Beaufort County, on July 6, 1932, to the late Samuel McCoy Corey and Bessie Sawyer Corey. On December 27, 1952, she married W.B. Cox Jr. who preceded her in death on November 15, 2007.

Marie graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1950, where she was voted Cutest in her class. She went to work at Buckman’s Dept. Store then worked with Sears Roebuck in the service department. In 1981 she went to work at the Washington Post Office as a Rural Carrier. She and her husband retired together in February 2002, she with 21 years in service and him with 33 years as a clerk.

Whatever they did it was always together except in death- but now it comes full circle.

She is survived by one son, William “B.B” Cox III and wife Elizabeth of Plymouth, NC; one granddaughter, Lyndsi Cox of Wilson, NC; brother, Hardy Ray Corey Sr. and wife Lois of Washington, NC; one niece, Wendy Farrior and husband Bill of Winterville, NC; three nephews, Samuel “Bud” McCoy Corey III and wife Ann, Hardy Ray Corey Jr. and wife Amy, and Christopher Corey and wife Michelle, all of Washington, NC; special friend, Sheila Smith, of Washington, NC; and grand furbabies, Sophie, Addy, and Bean. She is also loved by her large extended Cox family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel McCoy Corey Jr., and sister-in-law, Faye Corey.

A graveside service conducted by Darren Walker will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, Washington.  The family will greet friends at other times at her home.

Sammy Corey, Wendy Farrior, Hardy Ray Corey Jr., Chris Corey, Lee Warner, Jimmie Perry, Troy Woolard, and Greg Respess will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Children’s Home Society of NC, Attn: Accounting, PO Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415.
