The Coastal Plains 1A/2A Conference coaches named Southside striker Kenny Avila the Player of the Year after he led the league in scoring.
Avila, a senior, poured in a league-best 46 goals and added 19 assists as the Seahawks advanced to the third round of the 1A state playoffs for only the second time in program history.
He finished his career with 102 goals, good for second on Southside’s all-time scoring list.
“He and Jonatan (Perez) set a great tone for us as seniors,” coach Jay Petty said. “They were excellent leaders and Kenny did whatever we needed to help us win. He was a tremendous scorer and could control the pace however we needed it to be, fast or more controlled. He played more defense during the playoffs and did well at that also. Everyone who made All-Conference was very important to our success.”
The Seahawks finished 18-7 after a 1-0 third round loss at top-seeded North Moore.
Perez was second to Avila in scoring with 28 goals and 18 assists and joined sophomore midfielders Taylor Ashley and Eder Hernandez on the All-Conference team.
Avila and Perez were named co-MVP’s for the team, while senior defender Brice Sosebee was named Most Improved and junior forward Pedro Chavez-Pullman won the Coaches Award.
