Woolard takes fifth at state meet

Washington High School sophomore Aubrey Woolard just missed the medal stand at the 2A state swim meet in Cary.
Woolard was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle, covering the up and back distance in 25.80 seconds, 2.4 seconds behind the winner from Burns HS.
16 swimmers competed in the preliminary race, with the top eight moving on to the finals. Woolard make the top group with a seventh-place time of 25.81.
She was ninth in the 100-freestyle preliminary in 57.22 seconds, then swam 56.64 in the consolation round to finish 11th overall.
Last year as a freshman, she was ninth overall in the 50 and didn’t qualify in the 100.
