The Washington High School boys and the Northside girls host first round basketball state tournament games Tuesday, while the Panthers boys and Southside girls open on the road. The Seahawks boys and Pam Pack girls season is over.
2A Boys: Washington (19-7) drew the 15th seed and will host #18 Wilson Beddingfield (18-8) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The winner takes on the winner of #2 Goldsboro (23-3) and #31 S. Columbus in Friday’s second round. The Pack dropped a 68-62 decision to Goldsboro at home in early January, the night after they lost to top-seeded Farmville Central. Greene Central, West Craven and Ayden-Grifton also made the 2A tournament out of the Eastern Plains Conference.
1A Boys: Northside (17-9) is the #17 seed and will travel to #16 Oxford Prep Tuesday night. The winner faces the winner of #1 seed Wilson Prep and #32 Warren Co. Friday. Pamlico Co. (7) and Lejeune (18) also advanced from the Coastal Plains Conference.
1A Girls: Northside (18-4) is the 13th seed and will host #20 Cape Hatteras (16-8) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Panthers prevailed, 50-34, in the season opener at Cape Hatteras in November. The winner plays the #4 Vance Charter-#29 East Wake winner Friday.
Southside (15-10) is the 24th seed and goes to #9 Chatham Central (17-9) Tuesday. The winner plays the winner of #8 Bear Grass and #25 Eno River Friday. Conference rival Pamlico Co. is the 10th seed.
