Terra Ceia Christian School celebrated Future Farmers of America Week Feb. 20 – 23. FFA originally started in 1928. Until 1969, girls were not allowed in FFA. The FFA colors, blue and gold, stand for the blue field of our nation’s flag and the golden corn that grows in all 50 states.

TCCS has seven middle school FFA members and 16 high school members. In North Carolina, we have 37,000 FFA members and 364 chapters; TCCS is one of them. This year, during FFA Week, we had different dress up days. On Tuesday we had blue and gold day while on Wednesday we wore our favorite farming gear. Thursday was camo and blaze orange day while on Friday it was dress as a farmer or a cowboy/cowgirl.

Beaufort County Commissioner Frankie Waters, kicked off the week on Tuesday, speaking about the importance of farming and faith in God. On Wednesday, our FFA members hosted a petting zoo that included baby goats, lambs, chickens, a turkey and a rooster. The FFA members taught TCCS elementary students everything they had learned about lambs, goats and rabbits.

Last year our FFA members competed in livestock shows, tool identification, public speaking, and creed. Tool identification and public speaking winners went on to compete at the state level. This year, Nathan Van Verun, Austin Harrison, Carter Johnson, and Wyatt Cutler will compete in tool identification.

FFA is more than just farming. At TCCS, FFA members learn not just about farming, but also about how God displays His glory through His creation. In conclusion, this year’s FFA week was a smashing success, and everyone learned about the importance of farming.
