Horace Knowles Modlin, 76, passed away at home surrounded by his family. Born in Beaufort County, he is the son of the late Roland Blount Modlin, Sr. and Mary Catherine Woolard Modlin. He was preceded in death by a brother, William “Bill” Woolard Modlin. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a retired funeral assistant for Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory. He attended Mount Olive College, was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, March 4th at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church in Goldsboro with Dr. Glenn Phillips and Rev. Scott Thrailkill officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.
Horace is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ruby Smith “Bunny” Modlin; his children, Jeffrey Knowles Modlin and wife, Bridget, Bryan Ives Modlin and wife, Sandy, Tammy Smith Wallace and husband, Terry and Courtney Renee Smith; a brother, Roland Blount Modlin Jr. and wife, Debbie; a sister, Susan Swan Modlin; grandchildren, Damian Modlin, Pryce Modlin, Tolen Pacheco, Caleb Modlin, Joshua Wallace and wife, Riley, Abigail Wallace, Hannah Wallace; along with numerous precious nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
Horace believed firmly in God’s promise of eternal life. The family shares the same firm faith and is able to stand together and say, “We do not grieve as those who have no hope” and look forward to the day when “we will all be together with the Lord forever.” I Thessalonians 4:13-18.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Doris Bunch and also the Gentiva Hospice Team for their loving care shown to Horace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the First Baptist Church, 125 S.
