Jack Alligood, a cherished member of the Belhaven community, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 11, 1933, in Bath, NC, to the late Clarence William Alligood and Hilda Hawkins Alligood.
Jack graduated from Bath High School in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart, Gloria, in 1952; they were married for 58 years. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Belhaven and the Lions Club. He was a Mason.
His professional journey was marked by dedication and passion. He served with distinction at the Ford Motor Company in Virginia, the Beaufort County Sheriff Department, the Harry Latham Company in Belhaven, and Rad Jones Chevrolet. In 1965, he realized his entrepreneurial dreams by founding Edgewater Motors in Belhaven, NC, where he became a respected Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, and GMC dealer.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Marlene McGowan Alligood, and his daughter, Patricia Neal Alligood Stalls. He is also reunited in heaven with his brothers Norman Alligood, William Thomas “Dick” Alligood, Robert Earl “Bobby” Alligood, and Daniel Franklin Alligood.
Jack leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment to his family, including his sons Douglas Kevin Alligood (Patsy Robbins Alligood) and Thomas “Tommy” Evan Alligood (Mary Bishop Alligood).
Jack was a remarkable father and grandfather, deeply loved and respected by his grandchildren: Douglas Kevin Alligood, II (Holly Wyche Alligood) of Greenville, NC; Jacqueline “Jackie” McGowan Stalls Priddy (Philip Priddy) of Baton Rouge, LA; Timothy Kyle Alligood (Misty Nifong Alligood) of Greenville, NC, Madison Jules Alligood of Raleigh, NC; Breanna Bishop Alligood of New York, NY. Jack’s great-grandchildren, Jax Dane Alligood, Julian Vaughn Alligood, Lace Tracy Alligood, and Layna Kimberly Alligood, will cherish his memory forever.
Pallbearers serving are Johnny Alligood, Kevin Alligood, Kyle Alligood, Ric Browning, Mitch Hamlet, and Jeff Best.
His life was celebrated at First Christian Church, 419 East Main Street, Belhaven, NC, on Tuesday, March 19th. The visitation was at 2:00, the service at 3:00, and a graveside burial followed at St. Clair’s Church of Christ, 9814 NC-99, Bath, NC. Jack’s kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
