Janet Elizabeth Clarke, 66, of Engelhard, died unexpectedly, on Friday, March 15, 2024, at her residence.

Janet was born in Beaufort County on September 28, 1957, to the late Edward Royden Clarke, Jr. and Anna Jean Marshall Clarke, who survives.

After graduating from Mattamuskeet High School, Janet attended The John Robert Powers Finishing School in Raleigh, where her creativity was nurtured and crafted.

Janet loved people, animals, and flowers, not necessarily in that order. Being a gifted storyteller, Janet possessed a gift for bringing joy and laughter to any conversation. Never meeting a stranger, she always left a lasting impression.

She was a lifetime member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Lake Landing, where Funeral arrangements are pending.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two brothers: Ed Clarke (Courtney), and Chris Clarke (Patrice), both of Engelhard; two sisters: Kim C. Simmons (Donald), of Engelhard, and Laura C. Camplese (Dennis) of Nashville, TN. Nieces and nephews, whom she loved and spoiled: Donald Simmons, Jr., Anna Simmons Fincher (Brandon), Sarah Camplese, Waylon Clarke (Elsie), Cole Clarke, (Dana), Matt Clarke, and Thatch, Owen, and William Tankard Clarke. Also great-nieces: Kylie Simmons, Madelynn and Emmie Clarke, Lizzie and Kate Fincher, and Camille Clarke. Special cousins: Camille Arrington, Suzanne Spence, Liz Wasserman, and her special cousin Jean Hudson. Special friends: Richard LaCerre, John Toll, Edith Deltgen, and her little dog, Joey.

In addition to her fervent love for friends, animals, preserving heirloom flowers, vintage furniture, and collectibles, were her beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces. Upon hearing of her passing, the youngest generation of her beloved family recalled her kindness and fun-loving nature. The surviving family are comforted by this reminder of the fondness and impact she left with all who knew her.
