The Ripe for Revival Mobile Market will be at City Market on North Market Street each Wednesday from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm throughout the Spring and Summer growing season. Ripe for Revival, based in Rocky Mount, addresses the lack of fresh farm produce in underserved communities. The mobile market is equipped with produce shelving, refrigeration, freezers, and a mobile cooking cart. “One of the reasons that I secured the land for the City Market was to address the food insecurity in our community,” said Bill Booth, owner of the City Market and local farmer. “There has been a long time need for folks in the city area to have fresh, healthy vegetables, and provide someplace for those who need it to get it. The location is great because there is a lot of walking traffic in the area and it provides an alternative for those who might not have a car or the means to use a taxi to get to the closest grocery store. Providing the City Market space to the Ripe for Revival Mobile Market made perfect sense.”
There will be some restrictions on the amount of protein, dairy, and eggs a consumer may purchase, but no limitations on produce. Suggested pricing will be about 30 percent below grocery store prices. Individuals may pay the suggested prices, or pay what they can that day. Cash or card payments are accepted.
