Public meetings planned for Washington-Greenville greenway feasibility study

WASHINGTON, NC – Two Open House Meetings are scheduled for the public to learn more and provide comments regarding the Washington-Greenville Greenway Feasibility Study (Study).
The first meeting will be held on Monday, April 15th, 2024 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm (floating) in the Mark W. Owens Auditorium at the Pitt County Agricultural Center, 403 Government Circle, Greenville, NC 27834.
The second meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm (floating) at the North Carolina Estuarium, 223 E Water Street, Washington, NC 27889.
The objective of the Study is to assess the feasibility of a greenway connecting the City of Washington to the existing greenway system in the City of Greenville. The Study is being conducted by the McAdams Company and managed by the Mid-East Rural Planning Organization (RPO). The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Beaufort County, Pitt County, the City of Washington, the City of Greenville, and the Greenville Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are serving as key partners. The study is expected to be completed this summer.
Administered by the Mid-East Commission, the Mid-East RPO is a partner of NCDOT, and serves Beaufort County, Martin County, and the areas of Pitt County not within the planning jurisdiction of the Greenville Urban Area MPO. The Mid-East RPO works with local governments, neighboring RPOs & MPOs, and NCDOT to plan for and develop highway, aviation, bicycle & pedestrian, ferry, public transit, and rail projects. The Mid- East RPO is one of 18 Rural Planning Organizations in North Carolina and serves a population of 110,738.
