Billie Bryan Mackey, age 91, died Wednesday March 27, 2024, at her home in Belhaven, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday April 6, 2024, in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven. The viewing will be at 12:00 PM prior to the service.

Billie is survived by her husband James Mackey and her two nephews, William Barnes Bryan IV and Andrew Fortescue Bryan.

Born December 30, 1932 in Norfolk, VA, Billie grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from Richmond University. She started her career as a teacher and moved into medical research at the National Institutes of Health where she worked until her retirement in 2005. While at NIH, she founded SHER, an organization providing resources to women seeking help when facing discrimination at the workplace. Through the organization she was able to help many women while she was at NIH. After retirement, she moved to Belhaven where she was active with her church and the community.
