Washington High School sophomore Chaise Smith is among the best basketball players in the state according to HighSchoolOT.com. The website, owned by Capitol Broadcasting of Raleigh, named Smith to its 30-player honorable mention All-State team, making him one of seven sophomores state-wide who were chosen.
Smith and Dionte Neal of 2A state champion Reidsville were the only two sophomore point guards selected.
The website named 15 players for the first, second and third team, making Smith one of the top 75 players in North Carolina regardless of classification.
The 6’2 Smith led the Eastern Plains Conference with 19.5 points, 6.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game. He also averaged 4.7 rebounds per contest in leading the Pack (20-9) to its first 20-victory season in many years.
