Daphene Sides Silvey, 95, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 21st, in Washington, North Carolina.
She was the daughter of the late Myrtle Turner Sides and Ogden O. Sides. Daphene experienced a loving childhood in the Paw Creek Community, and attended college at Lees-McCrae and Appalachian State in the North Carolina mountains. She entered the Charlotte workforce, met and married the love of her life Herman P. Silvey. They had two daughters, Kathey Stiles and Melinda Patrick, and continued to live close to family and friends in the Oakdale and Derita communities. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a leader in a church circle.
Daphene spent her final years in Washington, North Carolina with her grandson, Joshua, and his family. Washington soon became a second home to Daphene. She enjoyed reading books, sitting on the front porch, waving to the numerous passersby, and visiting the local bookstore and libraries.
Daphene is survived by her sister, Patsy Smith of Columbia, SC; her two daughters Kathey S. Stiles of Dallas, NC, and Melinda S. Patrick of Bolivia, NC; 3 grandchildren, Joshua M. Stiles, Justin D. Stiles, and Heather P. Sawyers; and 5 great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Carver, Madison Sawyers, Miles Farrell, Adelaide Stiles, and Cordelia Stiles.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 27, at 1pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery on Clinton Road where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Our family wishes to express our gratitude to the nurses of Gentiva Hospice.
Daphene will be missed greatly.
Paul Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Silvey family.
